The phone rang yesterday.
It was Joe Giradi manager of the New York Yankees.
“Ralph!” he yelled into the phone. “We need you now.”
The Yankees have gotten off to a terrible start.
Their pitching right now could be about the worst in the major leagues.
And my old friend Joe wanted me to take the mound to pull the Yankees out of their slump.
Negotiating the contract was a breeze.
Fillet mignon for breakfast, salmon for dinner, and doggie treats in between innings.
And after game I win, I get a rubdown in the training room with a belly tickle to end things off.
Best part is, they gave me the locker next to Derek Jeter. I hope he takes me out on the town when he goes out.
It’s going to be great playing in the House That Ruth built.
