Teach Your Puppy Not to Bite Through Proper Socialization

Socialization is highly important to your puppy as it helps it to develop a better understanding of how it should behave, and to be more comfortable with people and other animals so that it understands what is expected of it. Socialization helps your dog to comprehend that people and dogs are not necessarily threats, and that it does not have to behave with excessive submission or aggression. That said, by socializing your puppy, you will also teach it that it is not necessary to bite, and that the behavior is not acceptable.

Though socialization can start by walking your dog through a place where there are other people and animals, such as at a park, you also need to make sure that your dog interacts directly with other people and animals to teach it not to bite. This requires a much more controlled environment than a public park.

When teaching your dog a specific lesson in socialization, you need to make certain that the atmosphere is calm, that the other people present are comfortable with dogs, and that you can properly supervise and correct your pet’s behavior.

If you don’t know any other people who can help you with this type of socialization, enroll your dog in a puppy kindergarten class. This will give your dog more of an opportunity to be exposed to strangers, other dogs, and an instructor, within a controlled setting and where there is an expert present who can help to guide you if you have any questions.
